High gloss – great leveling – perfect finish
Polishing aluminum, brass, bronze, non-ferrous metal and stainless steel components can be a preliminary process for chrome plating a workpiece. However, polishing aluminum, brass, bronze, non-ferrous metal and stainless steel components can also be a finishing process in surface processing to give the surface of components made of aluminum, brass, stainless steel and other non-ferrous metals an even, high-gloss appearance.
By polishing aluminum, brass, bronze, non-ferrous metal and stainless steel components, the surface in the top layer area is smoothed to achieve a mirror surface. Polishing is often used as a preliminary process before chrome plating and anodizing of aluminum, brass, bronze, non-ferrous metal and stainless steel.
In many cases, metal components get their final finish through polishing.
The professionals at MWM have many years of experience in surface technology, particularly in the areas of grinding, polishing, matting, glass bead blasting and stainless steel shot blasting of the above-mentioned metals. The MWM team also offers the following processes of electroplating, anodizing, painting and powder coating.
What processes are there for polishing aluminium?
As a contract service provider, we use different processes to polish aluminium to a high gloss, depending on the requirements and type of aluminium. These include mechanical polishing processes such as grinding with different grit sizes and subsequent polishing with special pastes. In some cases, electrochemical processes are also used, such as anodising, to create a protective oxide layer.
What materials and equipment are used for aluminium polishing?
The materials used include sandpaper in different grit sizes (e.g. 240 to 2000 grit), polishing discs made of cotton, flannel or sisal, and special polishing pastes. These materials are used on polishing machines or sanding blocks to achieve optimum results.
Why should I leave the polishing of aluminium to a professional?
Polishing aluminium requires experience and the right equipment to achieve a high-quality result without damage. Professional service providers can ensure that the aluminium is not overheated and that no unwanted surface damage occurs, such as scratches or scoring.
How much does it cost to polish aluminium?
The cost of polishing aluminium depends on various factors, including the size of the aluminium part, the condition of the surface and the desired end result.
How long does the polishing process take?
The duration of the polishing process can vary greatly. Smaller parts can be polished in a few hours, while larger or badly damaged parts can take longer. Service providers usually give an accurate time estimate when they inspect the job.
Can polishing aluminium have negative effects?
Yes, improper polishing can lead to overheating of the material, which can damage the surface structure. Inadequate removal of the oxide layer before polishing can also result in the aluminium not shining evenly and oxidising again quickly.
How do I care for the polished aluminium after polishing?
To maintain the shine of the aluminium in the long term, it should be cleaned regularly and, if necessary, sealed with clear lacquer or special aluminium care products. This protects the surface from oxidation and renewed soiling.
By working with an experienced contract service provider, you can ensure that your aluminium is polished professionally and efficiently.
