What is aluminium stamping?
Punching is a mechanical process in which aluminium sheets are formed into specific shapes using tools. It is often used for the mass production of precise metal parts.
What are the advantages of aluminium stamping compared to other processes?
Punching is particularly efficient for large quantities and offers consistent, precise quality. It is faster than injection moulding, for example, and does not cause any material changes due to heat, as can be the case with laser cutting.
Which materials and material thicknesses can be punched?
In addition to aluminium, other metals such as steel, copper and brass can also be punched. Aluminium sheets can be processed in thicknesses from 0.2 mm to several millimetres.
What quantities are economically viable?
Punching is particularly economical for large quantities, but can also be used for small series of a few thousand to millions of parts per year.
What tolerances can be achieved during punching?
The tolerances depend on various factors, such as the material, the tool precision and the machine parameters. The tolerances are usually between ±0.05 mm and ±0.3 mm.
Which machines are used for punching?
Various machines are used, including hydraulic presses and eccentric presses with press forces of 50 to 400 tonnes. These make it possible to stamp both small and very large parts.
What are the costs associated with stamping aluminium?
The costs depend on the complexity of the mould, the material quality, the machine precision and the number of pieces. Larger quantities generally lead to lower unit costs.
What other services do contract service providers offer in connection with punching?
In addition to stamping, many contract service providers also offer additional services, such as the assembly of components, surface treatments (e.g. galvanising, hardening), packaging and shipping of the finished parts.
How is the tool geometry determined for punching?
The tool geometry is developed based on the desired shape, the material and the punching parameters. CAD software is often used to optimise the design and simulation of the tool.
What quality standards apply to die-cutting?
As an experienced and reputable contract service provider, we work according to strict quality standards, such as DIN ISO 9001:2015, which ensures that the parts produced are of consistently high quality and fulfil customer requirements.
MWM GmbH & Co. KG also offers other mechanical services in addition to punching:
